Muktinath Pilgrimage Tour

The Jomsom Muktinath tour is probably the single most popular tour in Nepal. The diverse landscapes and cultures to be found along the tour route give a marvelous insight into the way of life of rural Nepalese people. The route to Jomsom up the Kaligandaki River passes through a gap in the Himalayan barrier in the bottom of the deepest river canyon in the world. The valley of the Kaligandaki River that runs between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Mountain is very beautiful. It offers good views of the mountains with spectacular and varied scenery on the way. The abrupt variation in altitude found here is astonishing.

Normally the tour continues above Jomsom to Muktinath, the famous pilgrimage site for both Buddhists and Hindus. The people of this part of Nepal are a mixture of Gurung and Magar in the lower stretches of the Kali Gandaki, Thakali people around Jomsom and people with obvious Tibetan roots, the Loba around Muktinath. Their customs and dress are all quite distinct and this tour gives a chance to see those differences.

The Jomsom Muktinath Pilgrimage tour gives you a unique experience to see mountains at your back, in other treks you normally see the mountains in front of you. Moreover, during the Jomsom Muktinath tour you will be enchanted by the naturally decorated landscapes of the mustang region. When you reach Muktinath temple you will feel heartily sacred because holiest Hindu and Buddhist temples offer many things to you. In Muktinath temple premises beside the main temple of Muktinath devoted to Hindu god Vishnu, you will see the two ponds which are called Mukti kunda named Laxmi and Saraswati Kunda, Hindu people believe that if they take holy bath in this Kunda they will get ultimate salvation. Mukti Dhara, 108 waterspouts which are established beside the Muktinath temple in the shape of cows head. The water from the Kaligandaki River continuously flows through the mouth of the cows head shaped waterspouts. Hindu pilgrims who visit the temple take a holy bath in each of these spouts in order to get ultimate salvation. Jawala Mai temple which has three eternal flames from the rock fed by the natural gas.
