Useful Information for Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing

Physical Fitness and Preparation

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing requires a good level of physical fitness, stamina, and mental preparation. The journey includes long walking days, steep uphill climbs, and high-altitude trekking above 5,000 meters.

You should prepare several weeks before the trip with regular hiking, strength training, and cardiovascular exercises such as running, cycling, or swimming. Previous trekking experience is helpful, but determination and proper preparation play an important role in completing this adventure successfully.

Altitude Sickness and Acclimatization

Trekking and climbing at high altitudes involve the risk of altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). As the trek reaches Everest Base Camp and Island Peak summit at 6,189 meters, your body needs enough time to adjust to the changing altitude.

Common symptoms of altitude sickness include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea

To reduce altitude-related risks, the itinerary includes proper acclimatization days in the Everest region. Walk at a comfortable pace, drink plenty of water, eat nutritious meals, and inform your guide immediately if you experience any symptoms.

Island Peak is a technical trekking peak that requires basic mountaineering skills. Climbers should learn how to use essential climbing equipment, including crampons, an ice axe, climbing harness, helmet, ropes, and ascenders.

Our experienced climbing guides provide basic climbing training before the summit attempt and explain how to use the equipment safely. You can bring your own climbing gear or rent necessary equipment in Kathmandu.

Winter climbing is possible for experienced climbers, but cold temperatures and stronger winds make the climb more challenging.

Accommodation and Meals

During the trek, you stay in comfortable teahouses and lodges operated by local Sherpa families. Rooms usually include twin beds with basic facilities.

During the Island Peak climbing section, our team arranges camping facilities with tents, kitchen support, and necessary climbing logistics. We provide nutritious meals throughout the journey to maintain your energy at high altitude.

Most teahouses provide charging facilities for electronic devices at an additional cost. Carrying a power bank is recommended, especially during the Island Peak climbing section.

Responsible Trekking Practices

The Everest region is a fragile Himalayan environment and home to the Sherpa community. We encourage responsible travel practices throughout the journey.

Trekkers should:

  • Respect local culture and traditions
  • Avoid unnecessary plastic waste
  • Follow designated trails
  • Support local communities
  • Protect the natural environment

With proper preparation, responsible travel, and professional guidance, the Everest Base Camp Trek with Island Peak Climbing becomes a safe and unforgettable Himalayan adventure.

  • Guide and Porter: For safety and assistance, it is strongly advised to hire a local guide and porter. While porters ease the strain of carrying large bags, allowing trekkers to concentrate on the journey, guides offer insightful knowledge of the terrain, culture, and weather.
  • Permits: In order to access Sagarmatha National Park and ascend Island Peak, trekkers must have permits. These permits can be acquired in Lukla upon arrival or through a trekking agency that is registered in Kathmandu. Obtaining all required permits is a must before starting the hike.
  • Weather: The Himalayas have erratic weather, with seasons and altitude having a big impact on temperature fluctuations. The optimum seasons to hike to Everest Base Camp and climb Island Peak are from March to May in the spring and September to November in the fall, when visibility is good and the weather is consistent.
  • Accommodations: Along the Everest Base Camp trekking path, teahouses and lodges offer simple yet cozy lodging as well as meals. Since there are fewer lodging options at higher altitudes, it is best to make reservations well in advance during the busiest trekking seasons.
  • Packing essentials: You should bring warm clothes, a sleeping bag, sunscreen, sunglasses, a first aid kit, and tablets that purify water in addition to good hiking boots. It's important to travel light while being well-prepared for shifting weather patterns and uneven terrain.
  • Nutrition and Hydration: Sustaining energy levels and avoiding altitude sickness require eating a healthy diet and staying hydrated. To sustain energy, hikers should drink a lot of water, abstain from caffeine and alcohol, and eat foods high in carbohydrates.
  • Trekking responsibly means cutting down on waste, honoring regional traditions, and helping out the community by managing tourism in an ethical manner. For the enjoyment of future generations, leave the environment exactly as you found it and leave no trace behind.

EBC Trek: April 2026 In April 2026, we did the 11 day Everest Base Camp trek with Himalaya View Treks. We were a group of two with Ram as our guide and Santos as porter - a pair of absolute legends! From the first email enquiry, Simbir of Himalaya View Treks was responsive and helpful and we couldn't have had a better trip. If you're going around in circles trying to decide who to book your EBC trek with (like I was), look no further. We're already thinking about our next trip and when we're back in Nepal, we wouldn't hesitate to go with the same team.

Everest base camp with island peak I completed the Everest Base Camp trek and Island Peak climb with my dad, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Everything went incredibly smoothly thanks to the excellent planning and organisation from Simbar. Our guide Sobit and porter Jhalak were outstanding both extremely welcoming, supportive and professional throughout the trip. We genuinely felt they made the whole experience what it was and without them we honestly wouldn’t have made it. I would highly recommend both the company and especially our guide and porter to anyone considering this adventure.

Annapurna Circuit Trek 2026 My wife and I went trekking on the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal from April 2–15, 2026. We used the services of Himalaya View Treks, and our guide was Jiban. During our trek, we encountered unexpected heavy snowfall, which made the journey much more challenging. However, Jiban constantly monitored the weather and assessed risks to adjust our plan, prioritizing our safety at all times. Thanks to his expertise, we successfully and safely crossed the Thorong La Pass. Throughout the trip, he took excellent care of us and provided honest, straightforward advice. We had an amazing experience! We would really recommend Himalaya View Treks! We did the EBC trek. From the moment we booked, we had excellent communication with Simbir, who provided us with all the information we needed. He always replied quickly. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the trek by a few weeks due to the war in the Middle East, but this was no problem at all. The trek was rescheduled without any issues. We had Suraj as our guide for the trek and were very happy with him. During the hike, Suraj arranged everything for us and made sure we could fully focus on the trek itself. He was constantly looking after our well-being and ensured we didn’t have to worry about anything. He also knew a lot about the area and the mountains. We can’t recommend him enough and would definitely want him as our guide again if we ever return to Nepal. On top of that, he’s really good at cards and chess. And he’s also good at taking pictures!

EBC Solo Trek (26 yo female) Just finished the EBC Trek and can’t say enough good things about Himalaya View Treks and my guide, Sujan. From the moment I booked the trip, the team was extremely responsive, communicative, and professional—I felt supported every step of the way before I even arrived in Nepal. A huge shoutout to my guide, Sujan—I absolutely loved him. He made the entire experience. He handled everything on the trek seamlessly, from meals to accommodations, so I could fully focus on the journey. He was attentive, organized, and genuinely cared about making sure I was safe, comfortable, and enjoying the experience. Completing the trek in 8 days was a huge accomplishment, and I truly credit Sujan and the team for making that possible while still ensuring everything was done safely and efficiently. Overall, the company is extremely well-managed, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering the Everest Base Camp trek—couldn’t have asked for a better team.

Excellent I just completed the 10-day Annapurna Base Camp trek with Anil as my guide, and I can honestly say it exceeded every expectation I had going in. From day one, Anil's professionalism set the tone for the entire trip. He was always well-prepared, punctual, and clearly prioritised our safety at every stage of the trek — whether it was pacing us correctly for acclimatisation, making smart calls on the trail, or ensuring we were well-rested before the harder days. You could tell this wasn't just a job for him; he genuinely cared about getting us to base camp and back safely. What really impressed me was how calm and composed he remained throughout. That kind of quiet confidence is exactly what you want when you're days into a mountain trek and pushing your limits. I never once felt uncertain about the route or our wellbeing. The trek itself — the rhododendron forests, the mountain villages, the jaw-dropping views of Machapuchare and the Annapurna massif — was breathtaking. But having Anil alongside made it a truly special experience rather than just a physical challenge. If you're considering the ABC trek, book with Anil without hesitation. You're in safe, capable hands.

We did the langtang valley trek with this agency. It was an amazing experience. We just showed up to their office and were taken care of right away. Our guide Suraj was AMAZING. I can’t recommend him enough. He made sure that we were comfortable at all moments of the trek, and he gave us so many informations on the region and answered every questions we had. When I come back to Nepal, i will ask for him again for sure.

My EBC trek was an amazing experience! Everything was very well organized, and my female guide Samikshya took great care of me throughout the journey. Even when things didn’t go exactly as planned, she handled every situation very professionally and with a positive attitude. I always felt safe and supported. The company leader Simbir Ghale was always available and found a solution for everything. I highly recommend trekking with her and with the company — a truly great experience!

I completed an unforgettable 11-day trek to Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp with Himalaya View Treks, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. The company was incredibly flexible and well-organized, tailoring the trip to our preferences and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Our guide Suraj kept us motivated and informed throughout, while our porter Anil was always cheerful and helpful — both were fantastic. Special thanks to Simbir for coordinating everything so efficiently and making the whole journey seamless. The stunning views, rich culture, and the team’s support made this adventure truly memorable. Highly recommended!
